Dolly Parton: According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the singer is still on the 2022 vote despite “leaving”.

Dolly Parton is still eligible to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame despite “resigning” as an inductee.

The country music star, who recently released a new album Perform Rose Runwas among the artists nominated this year alongside Eminem, A Tribe Called Quest, Duran Duran, Carly Simon and Beck.

On Monday (March 14), Parton released a statement on social media, withdrawing her nomination and citing her belief that she “didn’t deserve that right.”

However, in a statement released on Thursday (March 17), the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation said that while Parton’s request was “thoughtful,” she was “proud” of her nomination and said she still has will be taken into account.

“All of us in the music community have seen Dolly Parton’s thoughtful note expressing her feelings that she does not deserve the right to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” they said (via diversity).

“Besides her incredible talent as an artist, her humility is another reason why Dolly is a beloved icon of millions of fans around the world.”

They continued, “From the very beginning, rock and roll had deep roots in rhythm and blues and country music. It’s not a genre, it’s a sound that moves youth culture.

“Dolly Parton’s music influenced a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists to follow. Their nomination for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists considered.”

Voting for the Class of 2022 has already begun, with ballots mailed out earlier this month before Parton made her speech.

Despite the museum’s name, a number of artists outside of the rock genre have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, including stars from disco, pop, and country. Johnny Cash was recorded in 1992.

On Thursday (March 17), Parton explained in an interview with Fox that she originally felt the award was originally given to artists who make “rock music.”

“Since then I’ve been literate and said it’s more than that, but I still didn’t feel right about it,” she said. “It would be like inducting AC/DC into the Country Music Hall of Fame. It just felt a little out of place for me.”
