Disneyland unveils MagicBand+ wearable tech devices – how they work – Orange County Register

Disneyland and Disneyland California Adventure are known for their iconic use of colorful lights during their nightly extravaganzas. While the shows focus on popular Disney characters projected across the water with pulsing lights, guests can now enjoy a light show wrapped around their wrists at the same time.

Guests near “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure Park, “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland, and other shows can experience lighting and vibration in sync with these displays as one of several features included in the MagicBand+ wearable device.

The MagicBand+, previously only used at Walt Disney World Resort, will be available for purchase beginning Wednesday, October 19th for eligible Magic Key holders, cast members and Disney Vacation Club members and October 26th for general public purchase.

The device resembles a watch with a band that features a variety of designs, including Disney-inspired themes such as princesses, the iconic castle, and Jack Skellington. Other designs include the Marvel characters Spiderman and Iron Man. The device is rechargeable and includes a USB charging cable.

One of the most immersive experiences offered by the MagicBand+ is Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters, set in Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The activity is a scavenger hunt where guests are awarded a bounty at an assignment station near the Black Spire Outpost entrance.

Bounty hunters know they’re on the right track when their device activates with a flashing green light and vibration. The device flashes red and vibrates when the guest goes in the wrong direction. Once the guest has found their bounty, the device will flash purple and they can tap their MagicBand+ on their phone while the Disneyland app is open for the Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters feature.
