Disneyland delayed Toontown reopening due to severe winter storms that slowed construction – Orange County Register

Disneyland has delayed the grand reopening of Mickey’s Toontown by more than a week after a series of severe winter storms that swept through Southern California slowed construction progress on the newly designed themed land.
Mickey’s Toontown will now debut on March 19th at the Anaheim Theme Park instead of the previously announced March 8th opening date.
“Due to severe winter storms that have impacted our construction momentum, we are pushing back Mickey’s Toontown’s reopening date to March 19,” Disneyland officials said. “We can’t wait for our guests to visit and experience the redesigned country.”
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway’s new dark ride has already opened in the country and will not be affected by the construction delay of Toontown – which closed in March 2022 for the year-long project. Much of Toontown remains behind walls, with Runaway Railway limited to riders with Virtual Queue or Lightning Lane access.

The redesign of Cartoon Land will add new interactive play areas for young children and refresh existing attractions.
Roger Rabbit’s recently refurbished Car Toon Spin will return with the grand reopening of Toontown starring Jessica Rabbit as the private investigator.
The former Gadget’s Go Coaster is being reimagined into Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Gadget Coaster, based on characters from the 2022 live-action/animated film Chip ‘n’ Dale Rescue Rangers.
Goofy’s House is redesigned as a candy store with a messy Rube Goldberg-esque contraption inside powering the candy operation.
Outside, an elevated clubhouse will feature a rope climbing net, hillside slides and a sound garden with whimsical sound generators. Small play areas with balance beams, rocking horses, and sky-and-sky squares will fill Goofy’s How-To-Play Yard.
Nearby, Donald’s boat has crashed into a duck pond next to Goofy’s house. The boat is now filled with water and leaking from the inside. The resulting water play area will feature spinning water lilies and dancing fountains. Visitors can no longer get into the boat or onto the deck.

Other Toontown additions include a water playground and fountain in the center of redesigned land called Centoonial Park, and a Dreaming Tree with a grassy play area.
Featuring a statue of Mickey that Minnie is holding up like a ballerina, the fountain comes to life at night in a “one-of-a-kind spectacle.”
The Dreaming Tree is inspired by the tree under which a young Walt Disney would daydream in his hometown of Marceline, Missouri. Children can climb and play on the sculpted tree roots that protrude from a hilly topography.
Cafe Daisy will occupy space once dedicated to the country’s fast food stands – Pluto’s Dog House, Daisy’s Diner and Clarabelle’s ice cream. The Daisy Duck-style street restaurant serves “dinner classics”. Shade trees and umbrellas line City Hall’s courtyard, which is filled with alfresco dining tables.
Next door, the Good Boy Grocers Market, dedicated to Mickey’s dog Pluto, sells take-away drinks and snacks.
The cartoon land, based on the 1988 live action/animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, will continue to be home to Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and other Disney characters.
Mickey and Minnie’s homes — where visitors can pose for meet-and-greet photos with the characters — remain part of the Toontown renovation.
