John Aniston, a longtime star of the soap opera Days of Our Lives and father of actress Jennifer Aniston, died on Friday at the age of 89, his daughter announced on Monday.
The Greek-born actor has played Victor Kiriakis in more than 3,000 Days of Our Lives episodes spanning more than three decades and earned him a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards.
“You were one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever known,” Jennifer Aniston wrote Monday in an Instagram tribute featuring photos of her with her dad over the years.
“I am so grateful that you ascended to heaven in peace — and without pain,” the Friends actress continued. “And on 11.11. not less! You always had perfect timing. This number will mean even more to me now forever. I will love you until the end of time. Don’t forget to visit.”
Aniston appeared in dozens of series and films during his acting career, which began in the early 1960s, including roles on popular shows such as Mission Impossible, Kojak, Star Trek: Voyager, The West Wing, and “Gilmore”. Girl.”
However, he is best known for his portrayal of mobster Victor in Days of Our Lives, a character he created in 1985 and continued into this year.
The performance earned Aniston two Soap Opera Digest Awards — for Lead Actor and Outstanding Villain — in 1986 and a nomination for Supporting Actor at the Daytime Emmys in 2017.
Jennifer Aniston, who starred as Rachel Green on ‘Friends’, presented her father, who was absent from the show in June, with the Lifetime Achievement Emmy.
“This is really a special moment for me,” said Jennifer Aniston, 53, in a video that was broadcast during the event. “It’s an opportunity not only to pay tribute to a true icon in the world of daytime television, but also to recognize the lifelong achievements of a great and respected actor who also happens to be my father.”
Born in Crete, Greece, John Aniston grew up in Pennsylvania and studied theater at Pennsylvania State University before enlisting in the US Navy.
Aniston was married to actress Nancy Dow, who was Jennifer’s mother, from 1965 to 1980. He married Sherry Rooney in 1984.
Justin Theroux, Kaley Cuoco and Naomi Watts are among the stars who have shared heart emojis in the comments section of Jennifer Aniston’s post.
