BATU PAHAT: The Batu Pahat District Disaster Committee is expected to distribute data cards to heads of households of flood victims who are currently taking refuge in temporary relief centers.
Batu Pahat District Officer Nasri Mohd Ali (Picture) said the move to provide the map was taken yesterday after the committee found there were problems, particularly with registering victims at the relief centers.
“We used to have problems with registration when some relief centers were flooded and victims had to be moved to another center. So far, 16 centers in Batu Pahat have been closed due to flooding.
“Victims had to register again, which caused some confusion. So this data card is being distributed to solve this problem,” said Nasri, who is also the chairman of the Batu Pahat District Disaster Management Committee.
He said the available data currently only shows the names of the victims at the center where they registered.
Nasri said administrators only need to enter the ID card number to know the movement or help for the flood victims, adding that the cards will be distributed to all affected householders at all aid centers in the district tomorrow.
He said the card was approved by the government through the Ministry of Social Affairs and was produced in cooperation with Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. -Bernama
