Colorado Walmart Good Samaritans rush to rescue a child from a suspected kidnapper: the police

A Colorado woman has been arrested and charged after she allegedly tried to kidnap a young child from a mother at a Walmart but was stopped by quick-thinking shoppers.

The city of Alamosa, Colorado posted on Facebook that police on Thursday responded to a call about an ongoing kidnapping and found that a woman had taken a child that did not belong to her from a shopping cart.

“Due to the quick action of the citizens in the store at the time of the incident, they were able to hold the suspect until the police arrived and took the young child safely back to the parents,” the post reads.

The suspect has been identified as 50-year-old Kimberli Jones of Blanca, Colorado.

Jones was charged with kidnapping, threats, child abuse and disorderly conduct.

The kidnapping, threatening and child molestation charges are felonies, while the disorderly conduct charge is a misdemeanor.

Police say the crime was an isolated case and the public should not be concerned.

“The Alamosa Police Department would like to thank brave citizens, Wal-Mart employees and the community for their quick response and vigilance,” the post reads.

The Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Fox News Digital that Jones is currently being held in the Alamosa County Detention Center.
