Screenwriters regularly have a problem confrontedwhen it comes to the long term Jurassic Park and Jurassic world franchises, is that it’s hard to categorize many of them intention to the “villains” of each film. (By which we mean the dinosaurs, and not the eight million evil scientists and corrupt executives of this world who always think that a “tourist buffet” is an acceptable outcome for a trip to a theme park.) These are essentially just animal attack movies being made, after all on a very large scale, a reality that got writers pulling a bunch of silly shit to introduce some villains Emphasis on their stories – especially the characterization from Jurassic world‘s centerpiece Dino, hybrid creation Indomino rex, as a sort of dinosaur sociopath who lacks normal, uh, dinosaur morals. (Somewhere we feel a fictional Jeff Golblum was just beginning to babble in indignation at the idea.)
Now the regular franchise director is Colin Trevorrow (return to law after skipping World Consequence Fallen Kingdom to, well, not do one war of stars movie) has hinted that we’ll be getting more twisted takes on an evil dinosaur in his new movie Jurassic World: Dominion. That’s according to an interview with Trevorrow handed over to Rich in this week, along with a new photo of the film’s Gigantosaurus naming it – and we swear we’re not making that quote up -“like the Joker.”
God, how mad does Jared Leto have to be that he didn’t get that call?
Trevorrow “explains” that he thinks the Giga “just wants to watch the world burn,” unlike ordinary dinosaurs, who think carefully about ecology, environment, and ethics before spitting a bunch of poisonous goo in Wayne Knight’s face, we’re sure.
Really, it’s just a very funny answer to the constant problem of how to escalate in a franchise that started with “All the coolest dinosaurs ever tried to eat our heroes”. After all, what’s scarier than a giant amoral lizard that eats flesh and has knives instead of teeth? Someone who wants to show you a magic trick, we suspect.
domination hits theaters on June 10th. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will both reprise the lead roles, along with longtime franchise friends Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern.
