Colchester United condemns ‘shameful’ and ‘disgusting’ chants about Justin Edinburgh after the Leyton Orient legend’s sad death aged 49

Colchester United have condemned the “disgusting” and “shameful” chants chanted about Justin Edinburgh by some of their supporters.

The U’s were facing Leyton Orient on Brisbane Road when the chants were heard from the far end.

Edinburgh guided Orient to the National League title before being promoted back to the EFL just two months before his sad death from cardiac arrest.

Edinburgh, a well-loved and well-respected member of the footballing family, passed away in June 2019 aged just 49.

In a statement on their social media channels, Colchester United wrote: “Not for the first time this season, a very small minority of the away side have behaved in a shameful manner.

“This time he’s making vile chants which no decent human being would do and which are in no way shared by Colchester United or the vast majority of Colchester United fans.

“We will work with Leyton Orient should there be further investigation.”

It was a game that ended in a 2-2 draw when Leyton Orient’s two-goal lead was wiped out late in the game, leaving Colchester 21st in the league table and just five points above the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh’s former side are doing extremely well in the league, sitting six points clear at the top of the table.
