Club Onyx security guard killed: Defendant Anthony Jones arrested in connection with DeLaunte Maxie murder in Dallas, records show

HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — A 24-year-old man has been charged with murder over his alleged role in the shooting dead of a security guard at a west Houston strip club, records show.

DeLaunte Maxie, 32, was killed September 14 while working at Club Onyx.

A man got into an argument with the security guard just after 3 a.m. outside the club on the 3100 block of Bering Drive near Richmond Avenue, according to investigators

During the argument, the suspect reportedly drew a gun but did not fire it.

The shooter got into a dark-colored Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk with black rims and paper tags and left, but then turned and came back to the club, police said.

As Maxie approached the jeep, investigators say he was shot once in the abdomen. Maxie was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

According to court records, Anthony Glen Jones was arrested on September 15 in Dallas. He was driving a stolen black Jeep that matched the description of Maxie’s murder.

Officers were able to compare Jones’ booking photo to a crime scene picture at Club Onyx and saw that they matched, the records say.

While Jones is not currently listed in the Harris County Jail, records show he was issued $500,000 in bail.
