Clippers’ Paul George Named Reservation All-Star – Orange County Register

The Clippers’ Paul George is on his way to his eighth NBA All-Star Game, announced Thursday as one of the reserves among Western Conference players.
George, a 32-year-old Palmdale winger, has played in 37 of the Clippers’ 52 games this season, averaging 23.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.5 steals for a team that has recently begun to gain a foothold six wins in their last seven games ahead of Thursday night’s late start in Milwaukee.
Shortly after the announcement, George shared a message on Twitter from the Clippers’ account.
“Clipper Nation, PG-13 reporting here. I appreciate all your support, dear, I’m represented down in Salt Lake. Hope to see you at All-Star Weekend,” George said.
In his 13th season away from Fresno State, George is one of only three players in the NBA this season to average at least 23 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
This is his second All-Star selection since joining the Clippers. He had four selections as a member of the Indiana Pacers and two more while with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
George as a Western Conference reserve will be joined by Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, Memphis Grizzlies teammates Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr., Utah Jazz big man Lauri Markkanen and Sacramento Kings big man Domantas Sabonis .
Eastern Conference reserves include Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, Boston Celtics swinger Jaylen Brown, Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan, Milwaukee Bucks guard Jrue Holiday and New York Knicks forward Julius Randle.
The reserves are selected by the 30 NBA head coaches, who each select seven players from their own conference.
The 14 players announced Thursday join that starting pool: team captains LeBron James of the Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee, Brooklyn teammates Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, Boston’s Jayson Tatum, Golden State Warriors guard Steph Curry, Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic and New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson.
Despite a dominant January, Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard was not selected for the game as his missed games and slow start to the season left other deserving candidates behind.
When an All-Star selection is unable to play due to injury or any other reason, the task of replacing them falls to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
In a new twist this season, James and Antetokounmpo will draft their teams live just before the Feb. 19 game in Salt Lake City. Previous All-Star drafts in the now 6-year-old captain’s format had been prepared in advance. Boston interim coach Joe Mazzulla will coach Antetokounmpo’s team; The Nuggets’ Michael Malone is now an All-Star coach for the second time and will coach the team that picks James.
