In a statement, he said: “I have already said that I will not stand as a candidate in the next general election.
“However, following the decision of the independent panel of experts, I wanted to speak to my office team and family.
“I do not want my constituents to be further unsettled, so I have made arrangements to resign and leave the House of Commons.
“Tamworth is a wonderful place and it has been an honor to represent its people.
“I will not comment further at this time.”
