At 6:30 p.m. on the back wall of the radio row, two players, one from each Super Bowl team, gathered for a meeting. The normally busy media center was quiet on this Tuesday night of Super Bowl week. Most of the radio hosts, reporters and talent had booked their dinner reservations and this place was the perfect central location for these two competitors, one whose team stayed in Scottsdale and the other whose team decided to go that far stay away from the temptations of this area as much as possible.

The two players sat side by side and pored over their iPads, scrolling and nodding and discussing the six-page script on their screens. With the help of an all-black trainer, the pair discussed the ideas they liked best and edited the script down to their favorite points.

Set on the game plan, the opponents both put on headphones.

“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome back to New Heights, down here on the radio line in Phoenix, Arizona!” Travis Kelce exclaimed.

He looked at the cameras set up in front of him and laughed madly. His opponent nodded beside him.

“We’re down here at the Super Bowl having fun…. I’m Travis Kelce, this is my big brother Jason Kelce from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.”

“This is the official New Heights Super Bowl episode,” Jason said.

The Kelce brothers’ two-hour reunion during the busy Super Bowl week wouldn’t have happened at all if they didn’t have a popular podcast to tape to. The Kelces launched their podcast, named after their hometown, last September after talking about doing it for nearly three years. Over the 27 episodes this season, they’ve built a new brand of inside jokes and a devoted following that’s catapulted them to the top of the podcast charts. As of Tuesday, the podcast was #2 overall on Apple Podcasts and #3 overall on Spotify. They are also #1 overall in Mexico and Canada.
