CHICAGO– Twice a year, Chicago’s photographers gather in hopes of snapping the perfect picture.

During both the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, the stars and architecture align, perfectly framing the sun between the buildings of Chicago’s grid system.

Many photographers set off hours earlier to stake out their spot to photograph the so-called “Chicagohenge.” This astrological event has become a meeting place for photographers.

“This is a time when we know we can all come here to be with other photographers,” said photographer Vashon Jordan. “Sometimes we come out and it’s a beautiful shot and sometimes we might miss it, but we always look forward to being with other photographers.”

The next chance to catch Chicagohenge is spring 2023.
