Chelsea have been warned they could be caught out by London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham if the Premier League’s top-four race heats up.
An embarrassing 4-1 defeat by Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Saturday has opened the pursuit of the two remaining Champions League places behind breakaway leaders Man City and Liverpool.
Early in the game, the Blues were in superb form, having won their last five league games.
That run looked like an extension to six after Antonio Rudiger scored a stunning opener, but remarkably it only proved a consolation.
Brentford hit back, scoring four unanswered goals against the west London hosts to leave Tuchel’s side stunned and facing a battle for third place.
Spurs’ 5-1 home win over Newcastle not only pushed Arsenal into fourth place, but Antonio Conte’s side also moved within five points of Thomas Tuchel’s men, despite Chelsea having a game to play.
However, the Gunners can reclaim fourth place with any result against Crystal Palace on Monday night.
What is certain is that the race is coming to an end and both north London teams are yet to go head-to-head with a date and time to be confirmed by the Premier League.

While third place would be a bonus for Conte and Mikel Arteta as extra revenue comes into play, fourth place is imperative and at TalkSPORT Breakfast Gunners legend Ray Parlor spoke about the chances for both clubs.
“Any Spurs fan will be thrilled, scoring five goals at home is always brilliant,” said the Invincibles favorite.
“The goal before half-time is very important, Newcastle score the first goal, they could go 1-0 at half-time and it’s a completely different game.
“But Davis [scores] and what a ball in out [Heung-Min] Son he’s such a good player, son I’ve been watching [the game] yesterday and he was fantastic.
“Every time he got the ball he made a difference, the pace he has got his goal too, [Harry] Kane and Son are fantastic, absolutely brilliant players.
“And if they can get the other guys around them to play like they’re doing at the moment then they’ll be there either way, I always thought it would be Tottenham and Arsenal for that fourth place.
“I think Manchester United [are] too inconsistent for me, again a not so great performance at the weekend [a 1-1 draw with Leicester] so it looks like they’re out.
“Tottenham have to play Arsenal at home, so that will be the decisive game. From Arsenal’s point of view, you just want to go there and try to get a point. You would get a point if you were Arsenal.”
Discussing Chelsea’s fortunes, Parlor said their result was just an outlier but told them they need to react quickly with a mammoth draw against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
“They have to now [bounce back]they have a massive Champions League game ahead of them,” added the former Premier League star.
“It’s a breakaway and hopefully [Thomas] Tuchel will see it that way and say it’s gone now, let’s focus on the front.
“Chelsea have to be careful, Arsenal have to play Chelsea there at Stamford Bridge.
“If somehow they can get a result against Chelsea, which we saw at Brentford, then suddenly third place could be up for grabs for Spurs or Arsenal.”
