But the Blues go into this game after a shocking 4-1 loss at home to Brentford so they could be vulnerable.

Chelsea have only lost one Champions League game this season, played at Stamford Bridge. In fact, the Blues have lost just one of their last ten home games in UEFA’s inaugural competition.

But Real are the kings of Europe and have won this trophy 13 times, six times more than any other team.

They made it this stage after an incredible comeback against Paris Saint-Germain and in Karim Benzema they have the fifth-highest scoring player in the history of the competition (79 goals).

Chelsea vs Real Madrid: Team News

Chelsea hope Reece James is available for the start after coming off the bench in the Brentford defeat.

The England international wasn’t considered fit enough to make the eleven but played 35 minutes plus injury time and Tuchel could throw him in from the start on Wednesday.

Ben Chilwell remains absent for a long time, while Callum Hudson-Odoi missed the weekend’s game with Achilles tendon pain and Christian Pulisic was rested with jet lag on his return from international duty.

The USA international should be available for this game at Stamford Bridge.

But there will be no Chelsea return for Eden Hazard as his injury nightmare continues in the Spanish capital.

The former Premier League striker has had surgery to fix the fibula plate in one of his legs.

Luka Jovic also missed out on traveling with the squad while Isco is absent from Real’s team.

The La Liga giants could do without Ancelotti. The Italian tested positive for Covid last Wednesday and missed out on Real’s 2-1 win over Celta Vigo at the weekend. So it remains to be seen if he returns to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea vs Real Madrid: what was said?

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel: “It was a bit bizarre [atmosphere against Brentford].

“We need a better atmosphere against Real Madrid. In the first half it felt a bit like a friendly game.

“We were punished. So it’s a summary of strange events, but it’s on us and it’s our fault.

“I wouldn’t count on it being fate or happening. We’re going to dig and try to figure out why.

“There are some reasons we can take credit for and we will analyze and digest them. There is nothing else.

“It’s hard to take because what happened today is very unusual for us – so we will refocus on Monday.”
