Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Molde’s David Datro Fofana on a long-term deal.
The 20-year-old international from Ivory Coast has signed a contract with Stamford Bridge until 2029 with an option to extend it by a further year.
Commenting on his move to west London, Fofana said: “Hello dear fans, I’m here, I’ve arrived well and I’m delighted to sign for the club of my dreams. See you on the pitch soon, Cheers!”
Chelsea said on their website: “Despite his young age, Fofana has an impressive 34 goal involvements in 65 games for Molde, with 24 goals and 10 assists in all competitions since he joined the club from his home country’s Amadou Diallo Football Academy at the start of the campaign 2021 in Norway.
“He recently made his first full international start as a senior for Ivory Coast, three years after debuting for a national team made up entirely of local players.
“The Ivorian’s combination of pace, skill and strength makes him a versatile striker who can score goals but is particularly adept at holding the ball and keeping the ball under pressure.
“Welcome to Chelsea David!”
The news of Fofana’s arrival comes after striker Armando Broja was sidelined for the rest of the season with a knee injury in a friendly against Aston Villa.
Broja’s injury left Chelsea with Kai Havertz and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the club’s only No.9 options.
Last season, Fofana scored 17 goals in 29 games for Molde in all competitions.
Having only played in Europe so far this season, he has netted four times in 10 Europa Conference League games.
