Carlo Ancelotti slams Vinicius Jr.’s ‘disrespectful’ abuse during silence for earthquake victims

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has pointed out “disrespectful” abuse of Vinicius Junior during a minute’s silence to commemorate the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
The tribute ahead of Real’s 2-0 La Liga win at Osasuna on Saturday was interrupted by a voice shouting, “Vinicius son of Ab****.”
The Real Madrid striker was smiled at throughout the game, which his side won thanks to first-half goals from Federico Valverde and Marco Asensio.
Ancelotti said after the game: “The episode during the minute’s silence? Absolute disrespect, not only towards Vinicius, but also towards Turkey and Syria. We should not forget that.”
Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also condemned the abuse, saying: “They called him ‘son of a…’ during the minute’s silence, they chanted ‘Vinicius, die’; You see parents with their children combing their hair.
“You have to stop looking at Vini and look at the people. The atmosphere on this site is great to play but without that nonsense.”
Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera said he believes Vinicius Jr needs to “control his emotions” at times but insisted the abuse had to stop.
“Sometimes (Vinicius Jr.) has to learn to control his emotions, but I think he’ll improve because he’s young and he’ll get better with age. Vinicius behaved normally (tonight). We have to stop what is happening to him.”
No racist chants against Vinicius Jr. were heard inside the stadium, but La Liga, which has set up a special commission to combat abuse, is investigating.
La Liga filed an official complaint with the Courts of Instruction in Palma earlier this month after Vinicius Jr was racially abused during Real Madrid’s 1-0 defeat by Mallorca.
Ancelotti said at the time: “It’s a problem of Spanish football and I’m part of Spanish football and it’s a problem that we have to solve. Vinicius is the victim of something I don’t understand.”
Praising the Brazilian striker for his performance against Osasuna on Saturday, Ancelotti said: “Vinicius’ game was spectacular as always.
“A little more difficult in the first half; in the second he was crowded because he has a great physical capacity and when the others get tired he increases the intensity. He made the difference. He gave the assist for the first goal, he often got in front of the goalkeeper, he just lacked accuracy a bit.
The win brought Real Madrid within five points of Barcelona, who play Cádiz on Sunday.
