Cardinals, John Mozeliak agree contract extension to 2025: sources

The St. Louis Cardinals and baseball operations president John Mozeliak have agreed to a two-year contract extension through 2025, multiple league sources have confirmed the athlete On Monday. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was the first to report the news. Here’s what you need to know:
- Mozeliak’s contract expired at the end of this season.
- In June 2017, he became the first president of baseball operations in franchise history.
- Under Mozeliak, the Cardinals have won 15 straight seasons and made the playoffs 10 times.
backstory
Mozeliak previously served as general manager of St. Louis from 2007 to 2017. Under his leadership, the Cardinals won the 2011 World Series and returned two years later in 2013 before eventually losing to the Red Sox in six games.
What cardinals have accomplished under Mozeliak
The Cardinals have been a pillar of consistency under Mozeliak’s tenure since he took over the day-to-day operations of the club as general manager and senior vice president in 2007. Since then, the Cardinals have never had a losing season.

Why that made sense to cardinals
Mozeliak is widely considered one of the most accomplished baseball executives in the sport, and his resume speaks for itself.
As he entered his contract year in January of this year, both he and Chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. expressed optimism that an agreement would be reached this spring. The organization has already secured contract extensions with general manager Mike Girsch and assistant general manager and director of scouting Randy Flores during the offseason.
While the Cardinals’ regular-season success is undeniable, St. Louis is trying to re-establish itself in terms of post-season performance. Since being swept by the Washington Nationals in the 2019 National League Champion Series, the Cardinals have won just one playoff game in three years and have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs for the past three seasons.
Ideally, Mozeliak’s renewal should renew one of the most enduring organizations in professional sports. Now the Cardinals are hoping it can spur them to their first World Series title since 2011. — Woo
