Cardi B Disables Twitter and Instagram After Online Grammys Dispute

Cardi B has deleted her Twitter and Instagram accounts after falling out with some of her followers during the Grammys airing on Sunday (April 3).

The rapper was nominated for Best Rap Performance for her 2021 single “Up,” but didn’t make it to the ceremony. Fans expressed their disappointment online by attacking her, noting that she had led them to believe she would be in attendance.

“I’m deleting my twitter account but by god I hate this fox dumbass fandom,” she wrote before deactivating her account. “You’ve got the slow-witted idiots my kids all drag along ’cause you all were, even though I went to the Grammys and I fucking wasn’t? When the hell did I hint that I was leaving? I can’t, I have to protect myself.”

Things escalated when fans started talking about their children. “I bet your son doesn’t want you to stand on your butt while teasing us fans and never dropping music,” one fan wrote (via Rolling Stone). Cardi replied, “I hope your moms die,” then deleted the tweet.

Cardi took to Instagram Live shortly after deleting her Twitter to explain her reasoning. “I’m doing girl day shit today, right? And I’m chilling and everything and then I’m going through my twitter and I see people on my twitter – my fans, my own fucking fans – talking shit. Handy to say I’m lazy and that I’ve been hinting I’m going to the Grammys.”

She continued, “And motherfuckers talkin’ like I’m canceled, this and that. Let me tell you something, I don’t give a fuck whatever I said on those tweets, I’m f***ing serious. ‘Oh, why would you wish that on someone, mother?’ Well, this person raised my son. If you’re talking shit about me, why are you mentioning my goddamn son?”

Cardi previously deleted her social media accounts due to negativity from fans. In 2020, she called out to her fans to “try to control my life” before removing their accounts, and did the same the following year after being pressured to release a new album.

In other news from Cardi B, the rapper was recently forced to postpone her first starring role in a movie.

Cardi was set to star in the Paramount Pictures comedy Assisted livingbut a week before production was due to begin, the rapper was loudly forced to pull production back meeting.

The reason given for Cardi’s departure was her “overstretched” work schedule. She made her film debut in 2019 hustlers alongside Jennifer Lopez. Most recently, she also played a supporting role in F9: The Swift Saga.
