Callum Davidson confirms Nicky Clark is out for the season

The former Rangers and Dundee United frontman broke his ankle in training and will not be able to play for the remainder of the season.

Clark has been a key player for Saints this season and Davidson admits his absence will be a huge loss to his squad.

He said: “Unfortunately it looks like we’ve lost Nicky Clark for this season. He has a high ankle sprain that requires surgery that is a blow. He’s going to see a specialist next week but it doesn’t look good.”

Davidson was furious with his team’s first-half performance as he called the performance in the first 45 minutes the worst of his tenure at McDiarmid Park.

Things improved for St Johnstone in the second period as they took a vital point down the road.

Davidson continued, “In the first half, I asked the players to do certain things – play the ball forward, put pressure on them, question defenders, deal with first and second contacts and not give cheap free-kicks and throws give-ins near our penalty area – and we didn’t do any of those.

“We talked about Kilmarnock and what they are good at and then allowed them to do all those things, which was disappointing.

“I was very upset at half-time because that was probably my worst first 45 minutes since I was in charge, but what I can say is I was happy with the way they reacted in the second half.

“They managed to regain their composure and sometimes it’s nice to get a point when you haven’t played as well as you know you can.

“It was a wonderful strike from Drey for the goal so let’s take the point and move on. He’s probably been my standout player this season – he gives me a lot of energy in the bottom right and is a threat with goals and assists.

“We had ten players on the treatment table on Monday and some of them didn’t get away until Friday. I was happy to get the likes of Cammy MacPherson and Andy Considine back on the field.”
