Britney Spears is being forced to pay over $600,000 in legal fees for her mother

If there’s one Britney anthem that the entire Spears family seems to know by heart, it’s “Gimme More.” In fact, they just can’t stop saying it.

Yesterday, the pop star’s legal team filed a formal objection to her mother Lynne’s claim to pay her attorney’s fees: a whopping $663,202.84 since beginning a now-defunct conservatory. This is her now second parent who asked Britney to foot the bill for her exorbitant legal fees.

As if she’d been using Britney to fund their respective lifestyles for over a decade — by extensive properties to a pitch for a bad reality TV show – wasn’t enough, her family’s shameless exploitation of her family continues.

“Britney Spears was her family’s sole breadwinner for decades and supported her entire family,” said Britney’s attorney Matthew Rosengart specified in a Tuesday filing in Los Angeles Superior Court. “Lynne Spears and her attorney are seeking more than $660,000 in attorney fees and attorneys’ fees from Britney Spears.”

The filing also argues that the fact that Lynne was not an official party involved in the conservatorship – a point Lynn has often raised publicly known – there is “no legal authority” supporting her request.

Lynne’s legal team filed the application back in November, just weeks before the conservatory ended. In the filing, Lynne’s attorneys argued that Britney’s life improved because of her mother’s efforts to finish conservatoire. In essence, Lynne’s legal team claims that the least Britney can do in gratitude for her arguably belated intercession for her mother is foot the bill. Because what says Thank you mum, better than a few hundred thousand Benjamins?

In a since-deleted Instagram post After the initial inquiry, the singer denied that her mother worked for her behind the scenes, claiming that the conservatory was actually her mother’s idea as her father wasn’t “smart enough” to think of it. “My dad started conservatory maybe 13 years ago, but what people don’t know is that my mom gave him the idea,” Britney wrote.

While no decision was made yesterday on what to do with the charges, it’s important to note that Lynne is currently still living in a $1.7 million home that was paid for and maintained with her daughter’s money .

“Lynne Spears has lived in Britney Spears’ large, expensive home in Kentwood, Louisiana, for at least a decade, for which her daughter also continually – and generously – pays Lynne Spears utilities, phone service, insurance, property taxes, landscaping, pool work, pest control, repairs, and Maintenance, totaling approximately $1.7 million,” Rosengart’s filing reads.

$663,202.84 is an awfully high price to pay your family, especially one who has summarily deprived you of your human rights for 13 years and happily took your hard-earned money as if it were their own. “Free Britney” means free her, yes, from this insane, paternalistic guardianship – but please also free her from having to fund all of her relatives.
