Lancashire Police have now confirmed the body of a woman has been found in a nearby park.
They said they have not yet officially identified the body but believe it is Rachel.
Her death will not be treated as suspicious.
Her friends told Lancashire Live she gave no indication of where she was going or when she would be back.
A friend, Helen Moore, said: “Rachel hadn’t been drinking or anything, which is why we’re really concerned.
“We just thought she was going out for 10 minutes, so we didn’t think anything of it.”
A police spokesman said: “Earlier this morning police found the body of a woman in Avenham Park.
“While she has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be Rachel.
“Your next of kin have been informed.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be forwarded to HM Coroner.
“Our thoughts are with Rachel’s family and friends at this very sad and difficult time.”
