Blackhawks return to Milwaukee for first time in 30 years

MILWAUKEE — Probably one of the Blackhawks’ most unique opportunities of the 2022 season would come from one of their briefest road trips.

That’s because the team played a competition just over the state line about an hour and a half away in a city that doesn’t have a National Hockey League franchise — and it’s been 30 years since they had done so.

The Blackhawks faced the Minnesota Wild at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum as they took the ice for their fourth preseason game in 2022. It’s part of the franchise’s “Home Away From Home” series, which began with the short drive down I-94.

It was the first time the Blackhawks had played a game in that city since December 1, 1992, when they faced the Kings at the Bradley Center for a regular-season game. It was Los Angeles that emerged from that game with a 6-3 win over the reigning Campbell Conference champions in a very rare regular-season game.

The Bradley Center has since been demolished, with the Fiserv Forum serving as the venue for that contest, which was the first NHL game in town since the Blackhawks were last in town. A sell-out crowd, who bought the tickets in less than an hour on Aug. 15, watched as the Reconstruction hosts squared off against a team hoping to take another step closer to a Stanley Cup.

It looked like it was on the ice as Minnesota dominated the competition all along with a 3-0 win that saw them overtake the Blackhawks 33-12.

The Blackhawks wrap up their preseason this week as they take on the Wild on Thursday in Minnesota before playing the preseason finale against the Blues on Saturday in St. Louis. Blackhawks return to Milwaukee for first time in 30 years
