Her family moved from Vietnam to Thailand to Iowa to Georgia. In one of her tweets, she explained that her father was a political prisoner before noticing the Golden Gate Bridge.

During the night, her father and mother fled the country in a boat. They were rescued by the efforts of a fisherman after being trapped in mid-ocean and making it to the refugee camp.

Her father and mother advised her to seek a job in the regulatory, medical, engineering or pharmaceutical fields to ensure there was no way she could endure the hardships they faced during their tough times.

In May 2021, she announced that she was walking for the Georgia Secretary of State. She ran against Brad Raffensperger to win the election to become Georgia’s first Asian girl to have a nationwide political job.

Nguyen explained that she raised more than $1 million for her February 2022 marketing campaign. Dee Dawkins-Haigler, who received 19% of the vote, ran against Nguyen in a runoff after receiving 44% of the vote.
