Barcelona are in no rush to sell Memphis Depay this month as Xavi is more than happy to keep the Dutchman until his contract expires in the summer.
Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Depay, 28, to fill the gap left by fellow striker Joao Felix.
However, Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres are suspended for Barcelona’s next two La Liga games, which could open the door for Depay to start.
The former Manchester United and Lyon forward has only made four appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring one goal.
Barcelona are reluctant to sell another striker to Atletico Madrid, having earlier strengthened their La Liga rivals with the departures of David Villa, Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.
Villa helped Atletico reach a Champions League final almost for nothing a year after leaving Barcelona, Suarez won La Liga in the capital and the Griezmann deal completely backfired for the Catalans.
Xavi said of Depay on Wednesday: “Firstly, there was no team meeting to talk about him. We don’t know anything new about that. I said the other day that I’ll be happy if I end the month with the same team. As far as I know, there is no news to report. We have not discussed this with the President.”
Depay was among the forwards Manchester United considered as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo before turning to his compatriot Wout Weghorst.
