Arsenal star Marcelo Flores idolizes Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar and could have a dream come true after being called up in the Gunners squad to face Crystal Palace

Arsenal youngster Marcelo Flores is set to be called up in the Gunners squad to face Crystal Palace on Monday night – and he could achieve a goal he set two years ago.

The player’s father claimed his son will be in the matchday squad against Palace on social media, adding that he was “so proud and excited about the first call-up”.

The former Ipswich attacker, who signed for the north Londoners in 2019, has contributed an impressive six goals and two assists in 11 games for the U18s and three goals and one assist in Premier League 2.

And before he’s in Mikel Areta’s squad, set to travel to Selhurst Park, Flores could achieve a goal he set himself back in 2020.

Flores said in an interview with Goal: “I want to make my Premier League debut before I turn 19 – that’s my goal.

“And I want to make my real international debut for Mexico and hopefully be at the World Cup in Qatar.”

Capable of playing as a No10 or across the board, the Canadian-born 18-year-old is clearly rated highly by youth coaches – and Arteta – at the Emirates Stadium.

The Spain boss has a reputation for trusting young players in the first-team, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Charlie Patino, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah all handed chances in recent years.

And Flores looks like he could be next on this list and if Arsenal manage to qualify for the Champions League this season, he could face his heroes in Europe next season.

“I adore players like that [Lionel] Messi, [Cristiano] Ronaldo and Neymar who all did the same thing,” he added.

“When you look up to players like them you want to keep up with them because, like any player, my biggest dream is to win things like the Champions League and Ballon d’Or.”

Arsenal are struggling for numbers up front, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang no longer at the club and the likes of Martinelli and Saka potentially unavailable for their trip to south London, Flores could get his chance to impress.

And alongside scoring goals, Flores could soon be the next academy graduate to score for the Gunners this season.
