Arsenal suffered a major blow in their quest for a place in the top four with a 3-0 smashing of Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.
The Frenchman prevailed against the club, for whom he made 279 appearances, thanks to goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew and Wilfried Zaha.
Joachim Andersen, who has impressed since joining from Lyon in the summer, has been heavily involved and had his hand on both goals in the first half for Palace.
After a wonderful Conor Gallagher free-kick, the defender accidentally headed the ball to Mateta, who comfortably deflected the ball in from close range.
But the Dane knew a lot more about his second assist as he slotted through a fantastic ball to Ayew, who slotted it past Aaron Ramsdale into the Gunners’ goal.
Arsenal struggled to create anything in the first half and brought on Gabriel Martinelli at half-time as they looked for a breakthrough.
But it was the Eagles who found the net in the second period as Wilfried Zaha won, scoring a penalty that was missed by Martin Odegaard.
Arsenal pressed for a consolation as the game progressed as Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe made superb saves and blocks while substitute Eddie Nketiah hit the bar.

Very few Gunners players covered themselves in glory, with Nuno Tavares and Thomas Partey both being whisked away by Arteta for their shocking performances at Selhurst Park.
And it’s a result that will please Tottenham, who remain fourth – but they have played a game more than their local rivals and are yet to face them on May 12 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
