ant man star MichaelDouglas reveals he’s sometimes confused by the MCU’s ever-expanding cross-film narratives.

Per Digital Spy, Douglas admits he wasn’t interested in comics as a kid and feels confused about Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors) traversing storylines in multiple Marvel films. He explains:

“I had no idea about that [the universe] and even now i have to ask quietly because i don’t want to be an idiot. Now it gets very complicated because Kang, our ultimate villain, is in Ant-Man: QuantumaniaHe’s going to be in a lot of different Marvel movies.”

Douglas made his MCU as Dr. Hank Pym in the first ant man 2015 film and its 2018 sequel Ant Man and the Wasp. He is no stranger to franchise hopping having performed in it as well Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and the Disney Plus animated series What if…? in 2021.

The Hollywood veteran admits that because he came to the franchise with little awareness of storylines, he made a concerted effort to adapt to some of the MCU’s defining concepts. Marvel Studios quickly brought the star up to speed. Douglas recalls receiving a collection of comics to play Earth’s Scientist Supreme as part of his onboarding process.

His performance in the films is a testament to his impressive acting skills. As Douglas completed his orientation at the MCU, he brought charm and depth to the role of the brilliant but frenetic academic. Fans were blown away by his scene-stealing comedic timing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Since Douglas has been acting since 1966, it’s refreshing to see that an accomplished actor of his stature remains curious and open-minded about his roles. But Hank Pym’s character has existed since his first appearance in Stories to amaze in 1962 and had so many different incarnations in the comics as different superhero personas that it’s easy to see why Douglas might find it a bit confusing.
