Another 6-year-old caught with a gun at school, mother charged: complaint
A Virginia mother faces legal action after her 6-year-old son was reportedly caught with a gun at an elementary school.
Norfolk Police arrested Letty M. Lopez, 35, on Friday after an investigation found her son brought the gun to Little Creek Elementary School on Thursday, reports FOX 5 DC.
Police called the school at 7901 Nancy Drive at approximately 3:30 pm on February 16 regarding the report of a student with a gun at the school. When officers arrived, the school administrators handed them the gun. No injuries were reported in the incident, police said.
The incident came just over a month after first grade teacher Abby Zwerner was shot and wounded by a 6-year-old student on January 6. Police said the student brought his mother’s 9mm handgun to Richneck Elementary School and purposely shot Zwerner. who was in the hospital for almost two weeks but is now recovering at home.

No charges have been filed against the Richneck Elementary School boy’s mother, but police have said they are conducting an investigation.

Lopez was charged with contributing to a minor’s delinquency and allowing children access to a loaded firearm. She was released on criminal subpoena.
