Aldine’s harassment property on Nicar near Airline Drive was cleared after being used as a cover for crimes

ALDINE, Texas (KTRK) — Multiple Harris County agencies have worked together to eliminate a magnet for crime, rodents and dangerous meth lab fires.

Item 2 Harris County Sheriff’s Deputies said they were familiar with the property on Nicar near Airline Drive. People had reported it to their anti-harassment program since 2016. Thanks to federal funding, the cleanup process began Monday.

Heavy machinery cleared tires, shopping carts, cans, rags, and furniture dumped on the property. It was filled with unsightly junk that guides said served as a cover for illegal activities.

“Most of these places tend to be crime magnets. They tend to attract the most unhealthy and unsafe circumstances a community can endure,” said Pct. 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia said.

Garcia said the district can typically vacate one to two dozen lots like this per year.

However, $3 million from the Biden administration will help pay for the clearance of 200 properties in his county. There are an estimated 2,000 harassing properties across the county.

The property owners in Aldine are now responsible for the cleanliness of the property.
