Clouds return to cover the Chicago area
Frank Wachowski, the keeper of Chicago’s sunshine records, reported that the Chicago area received 100 percent of possible sunshine on both Saturday and Sunday, a welcome brilliance as the city enters its historically bleakest time of the year. All of this will quickly fade over the coming week as clouds cover the area again on most days.

Chicago Precipitation Prospects
There are some chances of precipitation, most of which is expected to be light and fall as rain, with the best chances for significant precipitation on Thursday. The rain shouldn’t have a major impact on the city’s 2022 rainfall deficit, which currently stands at more than six inches. With some colder air due to arrive by next weekend, there’s a chance some precipitation could fall as a wintry mix or even some snow Thursday night and next Sunday, but no major storms are expected at this time.

A dry start to December adding to Chicago’s 2022 moisture deficit
Rainfall in the Chicago area was low across the region throughout 2022, with many parts of the Chicago area oscillating between unusually dry and moderate drought as rains targeted the area. As 2022 draws to a close, rainfall deficits in the areas are increasing, with imminent prospects of heavy rainfall expected to hit areas far south of the region in the coming week.
