Video of a same-sex couple snogging after being featured on San Antonio Spurs’ kissing cam has gone viral and the reactions are beautiful.
On Saturday (March 4), Kasey Nicole and her friend Alina Hilliard were caught on camera during the Spurs basketball game against the Houston Rockets at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, much to their own shock and excitement.
After spotting each other on the big screen, the couple jumped at the opportunity and shared a passionate kiss. The kiss received loud applause from the audience and has since garnered praise on social media and more than 300,000 views on Twitter.
Nicole confirmed via Twitter that the video was of her and Alina, saying they were “shocked [but] thankful for the chance to be up there”.
Hilliard took to TikTok to say the moment was “special” as previous games they’ve competed in have only shown straight couples on the kissing cam.
“We actually talked about the fact that there was no way they were going to put a lesbian couple in front of the kissing cam a short while ago, so we did it [look] so shocked at the beginning of the video.
“While it may seem small, it definitely feels like a step toward love and acceptance from the LGBTQIA community.
“Thank you to Spurs for representing us and to the crowd who cheered when we were shown on screen.”
Comments below the post proclaimed the love for the couple and their moment of fame.
One Alex M commented: “My fiancé and I went there! We were so overwhelmed by the response from the crowd and so happy for you all!! As a[n] LGBT couple, that meant a lot to us too.”
And Heather Wolfe wrote, “No one gave you permission to be that cute,” while others shared how much they loved the moment.
Despite Spurs losing 122-110, the heartfelt kiss spread joy around the world, with many people commenting that “love is love”.
Twitter user @pdaveb shared the viral clip and took the opportunity to commend Spurs for making it happen.
“I think it’s the first time I’ve seen a same-sex couple on kissing cam. Think maybe they were just friends but whatever still counts.”
In response, Alina confirmed that the couple are “actually dating,” a comment that has garnered more than 140 likes.
Another user commented, “I was there live and it was brilliant and a moment that the crowd understood was special #Go, spurs, go“.
Many Twitter users retweeted the video, with user @LovelyLilo captioning it: “I’ve never seen gays on the kiss cam. I love that for her.”
And @Taysapxrocky wrote: “My girlfriend and I have been to several Pride Night sporting events and it’s always been odd for us that they’ve never really had a queer presence at the games apart from the Pride flag on products so most likely[initely] Salute to the Spurs.”
