Academy is scheduled to decide what to do with Will Smith this week

The Academy Board of Governors, in a letter from Academy President David Rubin, has set a date for consideration of the Will Smith situation, colloquially known as The Slap. Since the incident was 105 years old, it’s about time someone did something about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock in the face during this year’s Oscars. And the Academy will reportedly do something this Friday.
Since the Oscars, slap drama has been inevitable. Here’s a summary: Smith beat Rock; blacksmith he apologized and left the academy; Chris Rock went to the cinema; Jada Pinkett Smith posted this She was here for a healing time; and Chris Rock’s brother said Smith’s apology was disingenuous.
Initiallyhad to smith academy 15 days Announcement of the session that would allow him give a written statement. However, Smith has already apologized and resigned, complicating matters. This is the Academy no longer has the ability to suspend or expel Smith.
Here is Rubin’s full letter:
Dear fellow governors,
I am calling a board meeting for this Friday morning, April 8, at 9:00 am PT, instead of the previously scheduled April 18 meeting, to discuss possible sanctions against Will Smith in response to his actions during the Oscars airing on April 27 March to discuss.
April 18 was set in accordance with California law and our Standards of Conduct because our agenda included a possible suspension or expulsion of Mr. Smith from membership. We were required to give Mr. Smith 15 days’ notice before the board meeting at which such action might be taken, and also to give him an opportunity to provide the board with a written explanation at least five days before that meeting.
Following Mr. Smith’s resignation from his Academy membership on Friday, April 1, suspension or expulsion is no longer possible and the timeline required by law no longer applies.
Timely processing is in the interest of all parties involved.
Thank you for arranging the Friday morning meeting at 9:00 am PT. Zoom details will follow shortly.

Who knows what the ultimate punishment for assaulting a presenter at an awards show will be. The steepest thing would be to strip Smith’s Oscar, This makes him the first star to lose an Oscar. Even Harvey Weinstein kept his.
