There was a lot Poorly Halloween movies from the last few years. It’s hard to become an instant classic of the genre – after all, not everyone can become one Applied Sorcery. 90’s Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock as witches who murder an abusive man, get away with it and live happily ever after? Flawless Movie theater! And 2022 could be the very year that another such cult film joins those sacred ranks.

This October, Spirit Halloween – yes, the respected costume and prop shop with over a thousand locations across North America – is joining Strike Back Studios, Hideout Pictures and Particular Crowd allegedly Providing a family-friendly feature film entitled “simply, Ghost Halloween.

While the title certainly doesn’t win any awards for creativity, the film features Hollywood heavyweights like Christopher Lloyd (hopefully as an eccentric employee) and Rachael Leigh Cook (on loan from the Hallmark channel) (probably as someone’s mother). And the synopsis sounds thorough unbelievable after one official description of the movie:

“When a new Spirit Halloween store pops up in an abandoned mall, three middle school friends who think they’ve grown out of trick-or-treating dare to spend Halloween night locked inside the store. But they soon find out that the store is being haunted by an angry evil spirit that has been possessing the creepy animatronic figures. The kids embark on an exciting and spooky adventure to survive the night and avoid becoming possessed.”

Say no more! Did someone get my diary?

Of course, I like to think of more mature alternatives to this concept. Perhaps a 20-year-old walks into a nearly sold-out Spirit looking for a last-minute costume for a party, and is forced to become the 17th woman to show up at the same party as a sexy cat or a racist portrayal of a gypsy. Source horror! Or maybe it’s just a documentary about what Barney’s New York, once considered one of the swankiest shops of all time, was like overtaken by a seasonal Spirit Halloween pop-up last year after bankruptcy. A true horror story for the 1% and undeniably amusing– would watch.

Anyway, keep filming Ghost Halloween is now complete and yes, I’ll be front row for opening weekend – probably in homage to Ms. Cook’s portrayal of Lainey Boggs in it She is everything. Hopefully my local Spirit sells paint-stained jumpsuits and horn-rimmed glasses.
