Proving once again Sony has no idea what people want to see and has been pilloried for announcing plans for an entire shared universe built around Edgar Rice Burroughs’ legendary vine-wielding pulp hero, which came just a few years after Warner Bros.’ The Legend of Tarzan turned out to be one of the most unforgettable blockbusters of the decade.

Despite effect-heavy veterans and Harry Potter David Yates behind the camera to try and shape a mammoth historic adventure worth $180 million. The most damning thing to say about the rousing epic is that it’s certainly a movie that was made, released, and continues to exist. but that’s about it.

It didn’t flop after grossing $356 million at the global box office, nor was it badly panned, as evidenced by a 35 percent Rotten Tomatoes score alongside an audience approval rating of 58 percent. It’s just there, floating along as a solid, unspectacular slab of weaponized Hollywood entertainment that needed an iconic protagonist and an A-class ensemble cast just to deliver the definition of “meh.”

That being said, splashy extravaganzas full of recognizable stars are a surefire hit when it comes to streaming The Legend of Tarzan in the midst of rising to the upper echelons of two of the largest platforms in the industry. According to FlixPatrol, not only has it roared in Netflix’s global rankings, but it’s also the fifth most-watched feature on Prime Video, breaking the top 10 in 19 countries.
