FORT WAYNE, Indiana (WANE) — The Fort Wayne Police Department and Fire Department are investigating the cause of a fire that ultimately destroyed a home on the southwest side of town, the fire department said.
Firefighters were responding to a reported house fire at 1322 Michigan Ave. around 12:45 a.m. Crews went inside and found moderate smoking conditions inside the home, the report said. According to FWFD, the fire was in the walls and extended to the attic.
Two adults and three children were able to exit the home with no reported injuries.
Firefighters worked for about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. According to the report, the damage was extensive on the second floor and the attic area.
Firefighters said the house was eventually shot down due to the damage.
Firefighters remain on site to complete the overhaul work and assist fire investigators in determining the cause of the fire.
Crews assisting the firefighters included FWPD, TRAA, NCE, AEP, NIPSCO and the Red Cross.
