5 confirmed dead, active shooter in custody, Raleigh Police say

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — Five people were killed Thursday during an active gunnery situation in Raleigh, including an off-duty Raleigh police officer and a K-9 officer.
Police sources confirmed the officer was killed in the McConnell Oliver Drive and Tarheel Club Road area, and Raleigh Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin confirmed the current total of deaths during a media briefing just after 9 p.m
As of 8:13 p.m., Lt. Raleigh Police Department Jason Borneo confirms juvenile suspect has been contained. It was then confirmed during the media briefing that he was inside a house.
A significant police presence was reported in the area of the Neuse River Greenway and Osprey Cove Drive and Bay Harbor Drive just after 5 p.m. Thursday.
Police further advised at 5:40 p.m. that all residents in that area should remain in their homes and call 911 if they see anyone or anything suspicious.
As of 6:50 p.m., Raleigh Police were advising residents on McConnell Oliver Drive, Tarheel Club Drive and Old Milburnie Road to stay indoors. Motorists are asked to avoid the area as Milburnie is also closed.
In addition, a representative from Hedingham Golf Club, which is a golf club near the shooting range, said they had closed the golf club and dragged all golfers in for safety reasons.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety assists the Raleigh Police Department. The State Highway Patrol Aviation and local patrol members, State Capitol Police officers and Alcohol Law Enforcement Special Agents have all responded and are currently assisting the Raleigh Police Department.
“DPS is providing all of the resources needed to conduct this investigation and is working with local law enforcement to bring this shooter to a halt,” said NCDPS Secretary Eddie M. Buffaloe, Jr.
Additionally, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper spoke with Raleigh Mayor Mary Ann Baldwin about providing support to the situation.
“I spoke to Mayor Baldwin and directed state law enforcement to provide assistance in responding to the active shooter in East Raleigh. State and local officials are on the scene working to stop the shooter and keep people safe,” Gov. Cooper tweeted at 6:54 p.m


WakeMed has since secured its perimeter.
At this time, CBS 17 crews have confirmed that officers are allowing returns to the Southall and Eagle Trace neighborhoods, as well as Muirfield Village.
Finally, a CBS 17 crew, Lt. Borneo is next scheduled to address the media at 10:45 p.m
