Two of five deputies injured when a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter crashed in Angeles Crest near the San Gabriel Reservoir on Saturday have been discharged from the hospital.
The unidentified deputies were discharged from the hospital Sunday night, LASD deputy Koener confirmed.
Deputies assisted the Los Angeles County Fire Department with a vehicle rollover call when Air Rescue 5 crashed, according to Sheriff Alex Villanueva.
“The helicopter had some sort of malfunction,” Villanueva said after the crash. The patient from the car accident was not picked up when the helicopter crashed, officials later said.
The helicopter overturned after hitting the ground and would have come close to falling hundreds of feet into a ravine below, video showed.
One of the five deputies was critically injured in the crash. A doctor who was flying aboard the helicopter was also injured.
None of the injuries were classified as life-threatening.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the NTSB.
The incident came exactly a month after a Huntington Beach Police Department helicopter crashed in Newport Beach.
Police officer Nicholas Vella was killed and a pilot was injured in this crash.
