Two people were arrested and two others injured after a hit and run threw a car off the Pacific Coast Highway into the sea Thursday night, Los Angeles police officials said.
The crash was reported just before 10 p.m. at the PCH near Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades, authorities said.
A witness told OnSceneTV that a vehicle pulled into the roadway from the sea side of the freeway when struck by another vehicle reportedly traveling at about 80 miles per hour.
The collision threw a vehicle onto the rocks below the roadway. Footage from OnScene showed waves hitting the SUV with deployed airbags.
The witness said he and another person went down to the rocks to help rescue the couple inside. Footage showed a man and woman with wet clothes hugging at the side of the road while firefighters worked to clean up the scene.
Two people in the other vehicle, a sedan with frontal damage, fled the scene after the accident but were eventually arrested, police officials said. The incident may have involved alcohol, officials said.
Two people involved in the accident were treated for minor injuries, authorities said. It was not clear if they were the couple whose car ended up in the sea.
