FORT BEND COUNTY, TX (KTRK) — A 13-year-old is in the hospital after being shot in the stomach at his home in Fort Bend County.
Investigators said the 18-year-old who pulled the trigger was the victim’s boyfriend.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office believes the shooting was an accidental shooting that took place around 10:30 p.m. Monday at a home in the Mission Bend neighborhood.
Deputies arrived at the home on Great Oaks Shadow Drive, near Paso Hondo Drive, to find the victim awake and conscious. He was taken to the medical center for treatment.
The 13-year-old should survive. Deputies said he had a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Investigators said the 18-year-old, who is accused of firing the shot, left the scene but was brought back into the home by the victim’s brother.
Two guns were found in the home, police said.
“According to our preliminary information, there appears to have been a dispute over the weapon. I’m not sure if she played or if there was an altercation. The shooter’s finger eventually got into the trigger guard. The gun will fire.” Sergeant Phil McGuigan said.
The 18-year-old suspect has been arrested and the charges will be decided by the Fort Bend County Attorney’s Office.
