One person was killed and two others injured after a car crashed into a panel truck in Newport Beach on Sunday evening, November 20, temporarily closing westbound lanes of the Coast Highway.
Around 8 p.m., the Mercedes-Benz occupied by two men and a woman was traveling west at the 3300 block of the West Coast Highway when the vehicle, according to Newport Beach Police Lt. Michael Shiavi crashed into the back of a van parked along the street. The driver and two passengers were trapped in the Mercedes after the accident.
There was no one in the van at the time of the accident.
The driver, a man, was pronounced dead and the other two victims were taken to a hospital, with information on their condition not immediately available, Shiavi said.
It was not immediately known what caused the accident and whether drugs or alcohol were involved
All westbound lanes have been temporarily closed while authorities continue their investigation.
